Sydney

The Sydney Harbour Bridge - known locally and affectionately as the "Coat Hanger" Hot Special:
Sydney in Style with Qantas from $443*

Sydney, New South Wales

Sydney's beaches beckon. Get the feel of warm sand and cool water all around the urban shoreline. Sydney is not just a big city with a high energy, uptown and on show lifestyle. It's also part seaside resort; a living, buzzing, working metropolis, that lets its people breathe on beaches and in coves where cool water and warm shores let time trickle through their toes. If your only beachside visit in Sydney has been to Bondi, then rest assured there are several other places equally iconic if you are looking for somewhere to get the salt spray on your face and the sunshine on your shoulders. Sydney's beaches offer unequalled opportunities for chilling out and getting active on or under the water. There's waterside dining round the urban shoreline, and then there's the life on the harbour. Ferries come here and go there; sailing boats of all sizes are for hire. There are gin palaces to party on, tracks to meander, parks to pass special moments and rocky outcrops to read on or fossick about in; this is much, much more than just a big city. When you come here for your next breather, make a point to venture a little beyond the usual and acquaint yourself with a world Sydneysiders wouldn't swap for anything.

Shark Bay is the epitome of a neighbourhood beach in Vaucluse where people walk their dogs and kids swim in the enclosed shark net, there's even a beachfront kiosk to satisfy those lunchtime cravings. Flat Rock Beach is the antithesis of Bondi, and is really only accessible by hiring a kayak at Spit Bridge (Mosman) and paddling your way around to Bantry Bay. As residential homes cling to the cliff-face, they eventually give way to a plummeting waterfall and 100m of beach, guarded by gum trees and oyster beds.

Cronulla Beach is like a tiny slice of old Miami and the closest beach in Sydney that can be reached by a direct railway link from the city to take you right to the water's edge. After a day of lazing in the sun, walk around to Gunnamatta Bay and catch a ferry across Port Hacking River to Bundeena and enjoy a walk through the Royal National Park. Coogee Beach is terrific - it's wide, spacious and clean with lots of rocky spots to browse about, and there are sea baths that are cleverly built into the rock face by Coogee Surf Lifesaving Club.

HIDDEN TREASURES - URBAN AND HARBOUR SYDNEY BEACHES

Discover harbour beaches, explore secluded coves and enjoy in a wide range of water based pursuits. Sydney's beach experience is much more than the celebrated icons of Bondi and Manly. The city's coastline and harbour has hundreds of hidden bays and waterways which are easily accessible by rail, boat, car, foot and ferry.

Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge ("the Coat Hanger" - it's known as affectionately) and beautiful Sydney Harbour (reputed to be the most beautiful natural harbour in the world). Diversity, cosmopolitan, theatre, wine, song, culture. Come and see Darling Harbour, the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Cricket Ground, then Manly Ferries and more!
