Pristine clear waters beckon… Surf, sun, fishing, rainforest ambience. You can view this amazing scenery now with Australian Discount Travel & Tours. We are just a phone call or online enquiry away.

Why not indulge yourself in the very affordable Bruny Isle National Park catamaran tour? Take a discount tour on a new, state of the art catamaran to the seal colonies of the National Park. View the incredible Sea Eagles, Whales, Dolphins and the amazing "Spitting Rock".

This four hour tour has been acclaimed for it's photographic opportunities (the current record films taken on a single tour is 18 rolls of film!).  Bruny Island is located in the Kingborough municipality of southern Tasmania. It is accessible by ferry from Kettering, with sailings approximately nine times daily. The Aboriginal name for the island is Lunawannaloona.

It was sighted by Abel Tasman on his voyage to Tasmania in 1642, but the first European to land was the French admiral, Bruny D'Entrecasteaux, after whom it is now known.

The island is can be accessed by a regular ferry service or via private boat. It boasts many natural shelter spots, particularly on its more sheltered western shore and is a haven for small and large craft, especially during the warmer months.

The Island virtually divided in two, with "North Bruny" and "South Bruny" connected by a narrow strip of land (the isthmus). A small grass covered air strip is found on the southern tip of the northern section of the island.

There is a viewing platform on the isthmus which provides not only a view of the land and seascape but also serves as a lookout for the penguins and mutton birds which frequent the area.

Camel Tours are available, and Barnes Bay on north Bruny provides a fantastic pristine swimming area. On south Bruny, the Adventure Bay Coastal Reserve yields similar benefits. The Bligh Museum, containing historical documents and sketches by Australia's early European explorers, and Aboriginal material, is well worth a visit.

Slightly inland is the Waterfall Creek State Reserve. The Bruny Island State Forest and Fluted Cape State Reserve provide for bush walking, mountain biking and horse riding activities.

Towards the south and west of south Bruny, Cloudy Bay Beach has good surfing, fishing & swimming. The Labilliardiere State Reserve has a 5-7 hour walk through wildflowers and past sandy beaches.

Bruny Island has four 4-star and three 3½-star holiday unit-style accommodations (RACT-rated) plus a youth hostel. Bruny has a permanent population of 700 which bloats to over 5,000 during summer months. Several oyster farms provide the very best Southern Oysters that nature can provide and these are available for very decent prices throughout the season. For the more adventurous, an oyster shucking knife can be purchased for a few dollars and wild oysters sought from various bays. Delicious when served raw (live), with fresh lemon juice or maybe grilled "Kilpatrick style" with bacon, tomato sauce and Worcestershire Sauce (50/50 mixture), oysters are a fantastic fare to enjoy while on Bruny Island. For the angler, trout are available (in season only) and squid (specifically the absolutely delicious calamari) are often caught around the weed beds of Adventure Bay or off the many jetties that can be found around the island. The famous Tasmanian Rock Lobster (Crayfish) can be caught in season (licenses and fishing restrictions apply).
